about us

our modus operandi

What is Deep Thought? It is, in a word, a blog. At its core, Deep Thought is a website centered around consumer technology. We at Deep Thought are all geeks at heart. We love technology and the promise it bears. We write about the technology we use and how we use it.

Our goal is to bring you the world of technology in a fun, informative, professional, but unpretentious and not-too-serious manner; to reach out not only to the seasoned geek, but the average user as well.

Our regular contributors range in age from teenagers to mature adult. We are especially focused on the needs and experiences of those who are college-aged to mid-thirties, novice or hard-core geek.

Deep Thought isn't just about what we have to say, it's about what you have to say. Any registered member can submit their own work for us to publish. And through our fourms, you can contribute most anything of relevance or irrelevance.

We hope that you like what you read, and that you will contribute something original from your perspective, because we all want to hear something from the life of another.

If you have any suggestions, we're always listening. This is your site too.

history

Deep Thought was founded in November 2004 when two geeks had an idea. These two geeks spent their days online, reading about the latest and greatest in tech, and what others wrote about it. But instead of just reading, they decided to do some of the writing, and formed a site of their own: a site that offered great news and even better tech blogs all in one place. Deep Thought was born. After putting together a bit of HTML and begging a few friends to join, Deep Thought made its debut on November 23, 2004.

Deep Thought has gained some attention in its short history, having been featured on The Unofficial Apple Weblog, The Mac Observer, Daring Fireball's Linked List, and numerous other sites. In October 2006, Senior Administrator Joseph Bermann and Editor in Chief Nick Mediati took charge with the goal of bringing new life to Deep Thought.

On March 2, 2008, Deep Thought was reborn with a new look and a new style, with the goal of making Deep Thought an even more enjoyable site to visit. Through all this, Deep Thought has kept true to its original mission: to go inside the minds of geeks.

Deep Thought would be nothing without its readers, and we thank you for a great ride so far. Stay tuned, and help us write the next chapter of our history.

advertise with us

Deep Thought is a technology news and opinion site, covering topics ranging from the Mac to PCs, from gadgets to games, and everywhere in between. During January 2008, Deep Thought saw 72,221 visits (21,611 unique) and 279,139 pages served, according to Webalizer. Our statistics and research show that our readers are mostly male, and over the past year our visitors have been evenly split between Mac users and Windows users.

Running a site means bills, no matter how much we wish they would disappear. Advertising on Deep Thought is an easy way to help increase your product's exposure, and help Deep Thought pay the aforementioned bills. Starting at a mere $20 (US) flat rate for a banner ad, Deep Thought's advertising rates are an outstanding value that very few media outlets can offer. We accept JPEG, PNG, GIF ads (for the sake of our visitors, no flash, animation, or sound is permitted in advertisments; we pride ourselves on being a site (mostly) without intrusive advertising). And if our basic plan does not work for you, we will work with you to build a custom plan that does. And you can access stats via our easy-to-use control panel to see how well your advertising campaign is going.
