Last night I finally got accelerated OpenGL on my Ubuntu installation, so I decided to play around with Xgl. Let me just say that if you like eye candy, you owe it to yourself to try this out. The rotating cube is fun and the dragging window effect is well-done. 

Anyone else tried it?

Is it built into dapper or installible by package, or do I have to mess with a terminal?

Dapper IS pretty good, it tells you how to get MP3 support in the built in help, before that I had to guess what packages needed to be installed.

You’ll need to install packages and get the shell script that starts it (look around at ubuntuforums.org,) but no need to mess with the terminal.

The window switching is especially impressive. Nice-looking Expose clone, and an *excellent* alt-tabbing implementation.

I installed SLED 10 RC3.  XGL and Compiz really make Linux shine.

I’m a fan, too. Unfortunately, I had to replace the drive I have Ubuntu on with a drive I could install Vista on. I’m thinking of puttingit back until Vista RC1, though. You know, I think I’ll do that now. *Goes off to render something FUBAR*
