I bought a Mac Mini recently. It’s attached via Linksys router to my wired network. I am using it as a VOIP machine as well as serving websites. I had a bunch of space on the drive so I put 20 GB of my iTunes library on the Mini. I’ve been filling up my system disk and I wanted to spread out my data over a second drive in my G5 PowerMac and the new Mac Mini. iTunes immediately discovered my new library when I turned on the sharing preference. However, I have to click on the library first before I can search. There is no global search. The shuffle switches to the new library when I start playing an item in a library.
That’s Apple’s intent. It’s another concession to the music labels.
Maybe it is but I don’t get why. Once you disconnect from a shared library the playlist links would also be broken. I don’t understand how having increased functionality in the main iTunes library would be a problem for the RIAA.
