I’m as a musician very pleased with my Logitech X-220, and I rarely touch the EQ in iTunes. It has a clear and crisp sound in the mid and upper frequency range in spite of just having an analog connection to the Mac. I can’t hear much noise at all either.

So are you using these with a digital connection?
I am, but I am currently using my iPod with it which has no digital. I’ll soon have a SqueezeBox 2 from SlimDevices with optical to connect it to. My PB also doesn’t have optical yet.

You’re right of course. With most audio it does not make much difference. However, it would if there were a surround sound source.
