From here. After reading through the link titled “interface nazis” I would tend to agree with him. I have been pretty frustrated with GNOME when trying to do something I could do in KDE but unable to find the button or dialog that lets me do it, and now I know why I couldn’t find it. I noticed Torvalds seems to have the same kind of cynicism that I have.
GNOME = Apple OS X for Linux; minimalism
KDE = Windows diversity with UNIX stability
If I am off, how so? My first two experiences with Linux were KDE (Knoppix) and now I use GNOME. When Torvalds wrote what he wrote I burned a KDE CD just in case I wanted to switch.
Doesn’t Apple offer simplicity and power at the same time? Does GNOME?
I used to not like KDE that much, but now I’m warming up to it. I’m using KDE now, and I don’t remember liking it as much as I do. It’s actually a very good environment, maybe because I’m okay with the Swiss army knife paradigms.
I was using GNOME, KDE and XFCE with my Ubuntu. I prefer to use GNOME but other KDE are also good - it makes not a great difference for me. KDE is said to be the slowest and XFCE the fastest from these three: but I have not found a significant difference even on my pretty old machine.
