So what do you guys think about all the controversy over the hidden nudity in Grand Theft Auto?  Personally, I don’t thing it’s such a big deal, because anybody not old and mature enough to play the game, much less figure out how to access the naked scenes, should not be playing this game in the first place… and if they are, it should be up to the parents to regulate what games their children play.  And besides, even though video game graphics are constantly improving, this is still a game, and not even one with full-size depictions of people… they’re animated nudes!

Honestly, though… this is turning out to be a much bigger deal than it really is.  Just let the damn kids play what they want, as long as you, the parents, don’t object to it.  Don’t go regulating what other people have access to.

Quite frankly - what’s worse?  Beating people to a pulp, stealing cars, running drugs and killing cops… OR Seeing something entirely natural?

Dumb fuck american society.

I agree with ESRB’s original statement, it said something to the effect that because it wasn’t in the main code of the game and thus not accessible without modification that the rating it had was perfectly valid.

I’m sure Rockstar Games is loving all of this. It’s just free publicity to them. I’ll bet there was a surge in the game’s sales the day the articals ran in the papers.

Actually, I think their sales went down, because I assume anyone who didn’t already know about GTA was not going to buy it anyway, and this prevents the game from getting into the hands of prospective younger buyers.

It’s very unfortunate for them – I would place a heavy bet on the reason for it being there was merely an implementation issue.  They probably realised late in the process that it was going to push the rating up and decided to code it out.

When it comes to this, disabling the scene probably took about 10 minutes coding and a few days unit testing.  If they had cut it totally it would have taken about a days coding at least, and then a few *weeks* of regression testing.  By which point they would have missed the christmas rush.
