I think Windows users will find more and more software that is Vista-only for the same reason there is Mac software that requires OS 10.3 or higher—the software is using technology exclusive to that OS.
But in Halo 2’s case, I don’t have a clue what that technology would be. The same DirectX is on XP…

My guess (and the guess of others) is that Halo 2 will sport a graphics engine that takes advantage of DX10 (Vista only). It would explain why there has been over a year between releases, especially considering the first Halo.
To be completely fair, Apple does the same thing to promote their new OS:es. How much software wasn’t it which required Panther? The apps used specific new functions (or “features").
