Here’s the latest video of Leopard (supposedly) in action. It shows Word 2007, Windows Explorer, and Command Prompt all running in their own windows (outside of a separate Windows “environment” like Virtual PC or Parallels) alongside OS X windows. The Windows windows (lol) seem to have OS X’s drop shadows on them, and the About This Mac dialog has a “Virtualization” line that says “Windows XP with SP2.” Also, it’s apparently running on a Mac Pro.
Again, I’m going to have to assume fake on this one, just because it doesn’t show any new Leopard features OTHER than virtualization, and also because the guy apparently doesn’t know how to use a camera stand
The thing that screams “fake” to me with all these videos is the fact that they don’t show anything new. Think about it. Leopard is being demoed in August at WWDC. At this point in July, they would HAVE to have all of the biggest, flashiest features ready (or nearly ready) to go, so they can put on a good show. Jobs getting up there and demoing a new Finder with tabs is going to last about 2 minutes. There are obviously bigger things coming down the pipe, and they would already have to be in place by now.
Given that, the giveaway that these videos are fake is the fact that they don’t show any of it. The ONLY things that these screenshots/videos have shown are virtualization and a new Finder, both of which are almost guaranteed features.
To top it off, the screenshots are mysteriously never saved at full size and/or a decent quality, and the people who take the videos just can’t figure out how to use a stand for some bizarre reason. And in both cases, this prevents details from being seen. Hmm…
Not to mention, the About window is REALLY easy to fake. All you have to do is go to /System/Library/CoreServices, find SystemVersion.plist, give yourself permission to edit the file, and change the version number inside. I just took this screenshot on my system, and it’s “real” because there was no Photoshop or anything involved.
I think anything we see at all from anyone other than Apple is a fake. It’s just automatic—it’s all fake. Apple has kicked some serious ass with the leaks in the past. Nobody is going to mess with them on this.
With Photoshop and Motion and/or After Effects, I can do anything you ask me to in regards to OS X.
Do you want a laser cannon to come out of the trash can and shoot your file you want to delete to oblivion? I can do that, easily.
Just output as a QuickTime movie and play it full screen and then video tape it with a camcorder, or just post the damn QT movie and put it at 15 fps and say you did a screen grab to movie. Ha!
