My laptop’s AC adaptor failed a few days ago and after a heated debate with HP’s online support person I’ve decided to sell my laptop (after I get a new AC adaptor) and buy a new one because the tech person pretty much said that I would be buying one every year for the life of the computer and HP would do nothing to replace them for me. I am planning on getting Apple hardware this time, as it now seems to be the of the best quality. I am debating between the following:
The iMac Core Duo: It has a big screen, it’s fast, it has the dedicated video that I think every computer should have, and I only have to drop $1200 for it. It isn’t a laptop though.
The MacBook Pro: It’s everything I want, all that of the iMac plus it’s a laptop. The downside: that bad boy is $1800, phew!
The MacBook...: I guess it’s fast, it’s a laptop, and it’s portable beyond all reason, but the prospect of ANY kind of gaming is gone. It is $750 cheaper than the MacBook Pro.
The iBook: It’s old and it isn’t exactly fast. It has dedicated video, however pathetic. But it is the most portable of all, and the best part: it’s only $949.
Of course I could also buy a non-Apple machine that would kick-ass in all the areas of concern, but I’m really tired of re-formatting and reinstalling wIndows every other week.

This really depends on what you need to do with the machine.

I’ll be be buying a new Mac in September. I have held off because I wanted to see what new stuff might be revealed at the WWDC. A friend just bought a new 20” iMac and it looks great but since I already have a couple of fairly good monitors I’m thinking I’m going to see what might add to or replace the PowerMac line. I already have tons of SW for my G5. Most of it will not run appreciably better on any intel Mac. Some will be slower in Rosetta. So many decisions. Oh and I still have not totally ruled out a MacBook Pro. I used one recently and I’m impressed. I ask myself if I would actually use a portable computer? Where? Why? By the way, I have used many PCs and I have found none that come close to outperforming this 3 year old G5 PowerMac. By the time you did get a PC that might come close to kick-ass you’d be in the same price range but then you’d still have to contend with Windows. Oy vey!
Wait a sec. I just checked Apple’s site. There’s a Quad Xeon! OK now I just made up my mind. Except one thing. Should I go for the Quad 2.66 or the Quad 3? Kick-ass? Get outta here!
I’m getting excited now. The New MacPro has space for 4 video cards so that you can have 8 displays connected! Up to 16 GB of RAM! 2 TB of storage! Oh and then there’s Leopard to look forward to.
Probably a good idea since by then there should be many more apps made for the intel macs. Steve says there are 3000 now but the big ones that i want are still not ready.
