Random Geek Toy: The WiFi T-shirt!
Some ideas take “geek” to a whole new level, I swear.
ThinkGeekhas a new T-shirt out. Ah, this is no ordinary T-shirt, though. The WiFi Detector T-shirt, as its name suggests, includes a Wifi detector that will show the signal strength of local Wifi networks as you walk around. The T-shirt is powered by three AAA batteries, and ThinkGeek notes that it should :last for hours” before needing fresh batteries. Sizes range from small to extra-extra large, and the shirt will set you back $29.99. The shirt will be available later this month. With the Holiday shopping season approaching, this T-shirt might just make the perfect gift for the geek in your life.
Whatever you do, though, please do not try and wear this shirt on an airplane, lest you want the Transportation Safety Administration to think that you’re a terrorist, like this unfortunate soul.

UC Berkeley now on YouTube
Now you too can become a UC Berkeley student without maintaining high grades, taking the SAT, or forking out thousands of dollars each semester, just like somebody I know did.
Myself.
Okay, all kidding aside, UC Berkeley has made over 300 hours of course and special event video available for anybody to see on YouTube. In the past, Berkeley has posted lectures and events via its webcast.berkeley.edu site, as well as through iTunes U.
Visit http://www.youtube.com/ucberkeley to check out all the videos. While it may not mean that you can get a degree from UC Berkeley, you can see what it’s really like (See? people in Berkeley do more than protest 
). I am, however, disappointed that not one lecture posted is an English course!
And might I suggest some?

Verizon unveils “iPhone killer”
Quick show of hands: how many of you are sick of hearing about the iPhone?
Yes? Thought so. Let’s instead talk about purported iPhone killers!
On Wednesday, Verizon announced LG’s Voyager, which, like the iPohne, features a large touchscreen and is geared toward the higher end of the cell phone market. Unlike the iPHone, however, its internet connectivity uses Verizon’s faster EVDO service (as opposed to EDGE) and includes a keypad. Mike Lanman, Verizon’s Chief MArketing Officer states, “We think it’ll be the best phone ... this year. It will kill the iPhone.”
The Voyager was one of three new phones released by Verizon today.

DT @ Digital Life 2007 - Gateway One
Deep Thought staff writer Uchendu Nwachukwu (AKA UnnDunn) spent some time at Digital Life 2007 last week to check out the newest gadgets and gizmos, as well as discuss products with the manufacturers. Earlier in the week, we posted an interview he had with Jess Domain, who demonstrated the FordSync in-car entertainment system. In this latest interview, he discusses the Gateway One.
Gateway One, is, as the name suggests, an all-in-one desktop PC. Gateway One features a 19” display, cordless keyboard and mouse, Windows Vista Home Premium, media center remote, and 802.11n WiFi starting around $1200. If you’ve seen photos, you know that it is one slick piece of technology. In fact, Gateway One was the DigitalLife Best of Show winner in the PC category.

Microsoft’s new Zunes [UPDATED]
After months of speculation, Microsoft’s new Zunes are official, with two new models and a bevy of new software and features.
Leading us off is the new full-sized Zune 80, so called because it sports an 80GB hard drive. Available only in Black for the time being, the new Zune 80 will retail for $249. Next up are the smaller flash-based Zune 4 and Zune 8, packing 4GB and 8GB of storage, respectively. These will be available in Pink, Red, Green and Black, and will be priced at $199 and $149 for the 8GB and 4GB versions.
All the new Zunes sport a “Zune Pad”, which is a touch-sensitive replacement for the four-way directional button on the old Zune (renamed the Zune 30.) It still only functions as a four-way pad though, no scrollwheel or other gesture-based action here.
More significant is the new software that will be powering these Zunes. The new Zune software allows for wireless syncing with your PC, and the Zune’s much-maligned “squirt” feature has been tweaked to remove the 3-day limitation on received songs. But, they can still only be listened to 3 times. In addition, the new Zunes support H.264 and MPEG 4.
