250m

Apple today announced that they have sold 250 million songs in the iTunes music store, a mere 2 weeks after announcing selling 230 million.  This means they’re again exceeding the 1.25m a day that they were quoting previously, and they are continuing their near exponential growth.  One article placed Apple’s market share at 90-95% of legal downloads, while others remain more conservative and peg it at 75-80%.  Either way, the market share is increasing (it was quoted at about 70% previously), and it looks like Apple are in a strong position in this market.  Lets just hope they can hold on for long enough to make the digital music standard one that doesn’t go to Microsoft, and then lets hope that they open up and allow everyone to play nicely with FairPlay.
