A Creation That Defies the Laws of Physics

I have managed to make a device that both sucks and blows.

With some cardboard, tape, superglue, washers, and an electric motor I have managed to make a device that both sucks and blows.  First I designed an enclosure out of an empty swiss roll box, then I made a mount for the electric motor, then I went through a long process of designing a properradial impeller that would suck air from the top and blow it out the side, the case would, of course have a hole on the top for sucking, and then a hole in the side for blowing.  Making an impellor that would be centered and was small enough so that the vibration wouldn’t make it collide with the casing and break from the motor was most difficult, I went through two seperate designs before building one that functioned as expected, the first one used weak paper that warped when used at any significant degree of power was applied to the motor and not only became less effective but collided with the casing, in-fact less power could generate more effect.

The second design used cardboard for the blades and was braced with a cardboard ring on top, mounting it was difficult and it took several tries and different methods before I could get it centered and prevent it from breaking off the motor shaft, I eventually marked a dot and used washers to provide more area to mount the impellor using superglue.  Then I had to modify the casing as the blades were too wide.  Now I have a home-made blower (and sucker) using the same principles that air conditioners, vacuum cleaners, pumps, etc. to move air.  It was not an Earth shattering creation, but it was my first successful attempt in creating an air-moving device without using a traditional propellor.

thinkback

1.

Uh...bored?  tongue rolleye

2.

Poor man’s vacuum cleaner/blowjob machine?…

3.

wtf

4.

hmmm

5.

Wow… what a literate, vocal staff we have here. cool hmm  rolleyes

6.

Some are born shy, some aquire shyness, and others have shyness thrust upon them…

7.

cool cheese This is true.

Still, were you just bored, or was this a science project?  What use have you found for your contraption?

8.

The basement gets pretty hot, I want a controlled air moving device to move air against the concrete floor (so it will suck heat from the air) and up to the ceiling (where the air is the most warm).
