Another news outlet confirming Apple-to-Intel [UPDATED]

The Inquirer is the latest news outlet to claim to confirm that Apple is switching to Intel for its chips. However, in what may be upsetting to those holding out hope that Apple will use an Intel-made PowerPC chip, The Inquirer states that Apple is moving to the x86 platform, and is also in talks with AMD:

THE RUMOURED APPLE MOVE to x86 is true, the INQIORER has gotten independent confirmation of this. Prior to publication of this, sources had told the INQ that a switch was in the works. More importantly, they also said that Apple was playing the AMD card at full force, so don’t be too surprised if a green logo shows up on some models.

Deep Thought is not certain as to how accurate The Inquirer has been in past situations such as this.

UPDATE: The New York Times has hopped on the bandwagon. Article.

Deep Thought’s take: Suddenly I don’t feel too good, and I doubt I’m the only one.

Well, if it’s true it can only help Apple. Nobody’s going to leave them because of the move and I imagine a few more people will be willing to check out the Mac OS. Besides, the hardware is one of the least appealing aspects of Macs.
