Apple addresses some minor notebook issues

From the “My computer is yellow!” desk…

Is your white MacBook’s palmrest so yellow that it looks like someone smeared nicotine all over it (even though you don’t smoke)? Does your MacBook Pro whine more than a four-year-old? Is your clothing going out of style? If you answered yes to any of these questions (well, maybe not that last one), Apple wants to know!

Apple has posted a pair of very short knowledge base articles (if you want to call one-sentence blurbs “articles") addressing the discoloration of the palmrests on some MacBooks and high-pitched whining of some MacBook Pros. If your ICBM* laptop is exhibiting either of these annoyances, contact AppleCare and they should be able to help.

Don’t believe me? Read them for yourself!

*That’s “Intel-Chip-Based Mac” for the uninitiated.

1.

The most useless advice on the internet to date.

And what is this about “minor” issues? Are you sure you know what’s going on?

2.

Considering that there haven’t been flames shooting out of MacBooks or any other major hardware failures due to either issue, I’d say it’s fairly minor--just annoying as hell.

I own a MacBook, fwiw.

3.

And you’re right they are pretty useless “articles.”

4.

If it’s happening to a large section of users or causing serious hazards (such as doing a dell) then it’s major. If it’s something that’s merely annoying and only affects certain models then it’s minor. And I believe Gateway was also having problems with the whining.

5.

As was a my co-worker’s Core Duo-based X60.

6.

If your 15-inch MacBook Pro emits a high-pitched buzzing sound, please contact AppleCare for service.

That is all the advice Apple gives for people facing immensed frustration with such problems.

There has been a sizeable number of complaints regarding this, as well as the overheating problem and the battery recalls.

Where is the support page for those?

Not very useful at all.

7.

The whining problem is with lots of Core Duo portables as are the heat problems. Applep portables run a little bit hotter than most other Core Duo portables but only be a matter of degrees. The battery recall support page can get found here:

https://support.apple.com/macbookpro15/batt eryexchange/

As for the support, it’s all you need to be told, it’s a fault, they’re willing to fix it, call tech support and they’ll sort out a repair. It’d be no different to dell saying “If you are experiencing exploding laptops then please contact Dell Support”

8.

If its a fault, do they explain why and what will they do to resolve it?  Is it an exchange for a brand new? refurbished?  Come on, this is an Apple fan website, I expect to see some in depth details of all of this.  Or should readers just stick to the bigwig Apple forums?
