Apple Counting UP to 500 Million Songs Sold

Apple has launched a giveaway promotion celebrating 500 million song downloads on iTunes Music Store. The lucky 500 millionth downloader gets a rather impressive prize:

10 iPods for yourself and family or friends (choose from any model iPod, iPod mini, iPod U2, or iPod shuffle); a gold 10,000-song gift card for the music store; 10 additional 50-song gift cards to go with those iPods; and a trip for you and three guests to see Coldplay on its current tour, with front-row seats (subject to availability), and “back-stage� passes for a meet n’ greet with the band (guaranteed availability).

Also, every 100,000th song sold up until the 500 millionth song sold will get the downloader an iPod mini and 50 free downloads.

as of this posting, over 481,600,000 songs have been sold.

You can check apple.com, which has a pretty cool live counter.  And hopefully someone will make a freeware app as well.
