Apple iSight Disappears
Recently Apple’s webcam, the iSight, has vanished from the online store, as well as from Apple Retail Stores. The reason for the iSight’s sudden disappearance goes unexplained by Apple and the can only be speculated upon.
While it is true apple now ships all of its portables and iMacs with built in iSights, it still has no camera solution for the Apple Cinema Display. Apple currently ships Mac Minis, Mac Pros, and Xserves without any camera solution, so there is still a large market for the iSight.
MacWorld San Francisco 2007 is only a few weeks away now, and it is very possible Apple could update the iSight then, or update their display line with built in iSights. It is a possibility that this was planned, but Apple’s current stock of iSights ran short sooner than expected. It happened before with Apple during the summer of 2005 when Apple ran out of iMac G4s, which were later replaced by the iMac G5 the next month.

1.
It took me a while to get this information…
In the EU the iSight has been mising for quite a while
the reson for this is that the iSight does not meet the specs necessary
for being disposable in an environmentally friendly manner.
For this reason alsone the iSight is no longer avalible over here.
Perhaps similar legislation in other territories has had the same effect
