Back on Track With Mac
I hope I will always remain one of Apples’ biggest supporters. My powerbook has really challenged me lately. The fan has become very noisy and distracting. But when I measure it’s performance based upon its’ capabilities and the hard work out that it gets from me, I guess I still have to say that Apple makes a great product. I continue to enjoy my Ipods and have been considering an iMac as alternative system. It took me a while to realize how great Apple really is. I forgot to look at the big picture. For a short while my judgment was clouded by my problems with my notebook. So excuse my previous, short lived article. Apple is an amazing company and I lost sight of that when I was drowning in the buzzing sound of my fan.

thinkback
Uhm, is this supposed to be up yet? Bryan?
Sorry about the draft I put up before
Why SuSE?
And, you paid for it?
I’ve been generally pretty happy with Apple’s customer service. If I have an issue with Apple, I let them know. On more than one occasion, I was contacted by a customer service rep after emailing Jobs (or ). My issues have always been resolved. My iBook died repeatedly, so Apple replaced it. I had a grievance over transferring my AppleCare warranty from my old ibook to the Apple-issued replacement, so Applerefunded me the $240 I spent on appleCare and gave me three full years on my iBook for $183. Not bad. My only real complaints regarding their customer service are that Apple’s standard warranty offering is weak compared to other manufacturers and they are sometimes slow to acknowledge issues with their products (though to their credit, they have been better at ‘fessing up since the whole iBook G3 fiasco).
Dell? *shudder* At least get a ThinkPad or something!
My brothers has a ThinkPad. I’m changing monitors so I can use a 3rd party monitor (LG). Otherwise, the machine runs quietly and will last the 4 years that my last Dell lasted (1999-2003)
SogniX, I paid for it for the tech support. SUSE because it’s a cool lizard, and it just went 10.0 I am also getting Ubuntu like you recommend
OK I canceled SuSE. Thanks SogniX!
Also, thanks to SogniX, I’m a member at YourMusic.com’s $5.99 club. And also NetFlix!
I think this post is really funny! I can’t believe that only a few short days ago you were telling me how much Apple sux and how much they can go to hell!!! I’m glad that you saw the light at the end of the tunnel. I think that if you get a newer powerbook or something like that it will be good to you. Did you try out your brother’s computer and not like it? I bet you did. Dells suck! lol. Anyways, how is life? Talk to you soon!!!
While it pains me to think of the publishing atrocities you’ve committed by editing your previous blogicle instead of making a new one, it’s good to know you’ve come to your senses and I won’t have to beat you with a G5 side panel.
Why the sudden change of heart?
Because you can run Linux on a mac and iPod
Heh
Yeah, just don’t expect to be using wireless networking via Airport Extreme. Airport Extreme has closed specs so no one’s been able to write linux drivers for it. Main thing that turns me off running ‘nix on Mac.
I was thinking of buying an AirPort Express again because I sold my last one but now you’ve sold me on my current selection, WRT54G. I’ll get a second one of those for the first floor. Yay Linksys hackable firmware that I have no clue how to play with! To be honest, I’d love things to just work out of the box, and even if I am mad at Apple now, they are one of the few machines that are truly stable and simple. There’s still much to say about what they’re doing wrong that I’ll blog about soon. But it has less to do with my PowerBook than I want to admit. So yes, I’ll use other routers!

Hey Nick. Thanks for the link to I’ll keep it in mind for the future. As I wrote, I think Apple is pretty special and I want to buy what they make, except it’s hard because I know they only pay half of what they charge and then a $18 fan is making noise and they can’t figure out how to fix it. It’s $18 on PB-Fix-It and they can’t figure this out.
Yes, Apple is a leader. But there are other companies. I don’t know or care who makes it, as long as it works and this one doesn’t---yet. I’d like to eat my words soon.
SogniX, might I add that Xserve’s have recently been, for the last year or so, certified to run both Windows and Linux or something like that---definitely Linux. I know they have G5s so i don’t get the Windows part but that’s waht I remember from a Keynote probably WWDC. Anyway, it doesn’t matter.
Why isn’t AirPort Extreme working under ‘nix? It works under OS X which is a ‘nix basically. It’s a BSD. WHy can’t we copy and transcode or something the driver?

Dells suck? Maybe. I’m writing this on a Microsoft kb (my mouse is a Mighty Mouse) attached to the notorious noisy PowerBook. I liked using my brother’s Dell this week because it was whisper quiet like Apple machines normally are. Plus, I’ve had pretty good experiences, with Dell and with their components lasting long. I had a Dell from 1998-2003. I got it just when Windows 95 was being switched to 98 that summer/fall.
It worked under 2000/XP and burned over 4000 discs for me. It’s a champ, and it’s in the garbage right now because I thought the Mac would do me good with no viruses, which isn’t Dell’s fault but Dell could’ve better protected me against. Dell only gave me a 1 year trial of their anti-virus stuff from McAffee when they know I’m going to use the machine for longer.
Yup, I did have a change of heart, but I still don’t mind getting free iPods.
Joanna, life is good. I am sitting in my room which is now a mess because i wanted to be a moron like Steve Jobs and wear only one shirt and jeans. So now I have seven white t-shirts in my bedroom and a ton of stuff on my floor. I mean a TON of stuff. If you are reading this, laugh with me.
But seriously my grandfather papa was too into collecting things. Why do we all have to have a million things in our rooms and on our computers? Just get rid of it and give it away. Enjoy the moment, not organizing it all. Just do it and forget about it and if you see it again, throw it away or something. I’m sick of the mess. I found a few hundred magic cards I never knew about.
As much as my room is clean it is not transparent or searchable like Spotlight in Tiger. I wish it were then I’d have more motivation to put things in drawers. Of course I can visualize where everything is but that’s not necessary all the time and shouldn’t be. Just search and find.
I once saw the Tiger something finding system for papers. Real papers. Tiger or cat something. It’s funny because all of Apple’s OS’s have had codenames of cats in the last half a decade.
ANyway, life is good, you?

The Xserve RAID rackmount storage device is certified to interface with Windows and Linux servers.
