Farewell my HD

I was planning to post a comment about the new Apple products in this post but I think something more important has happened. My Hard Disk is dying. Every time I start up my iBook, either from sleep or from being turned off it starts making weird whirring noises that sound like they could have been used in a Sci Fi movie in the 70’s.

I went into Disk Utility and clicked on the HD to check it. Then my attention was drawn to some red text at the bottom that said “Failing”. This was next to some other text that said “S.M.A.R.T. Status:”. So I go on Apple’s support site and find out that it means that my HD is going to explode. Well, not quite as dramatic, but it’s not gonna work any more. So I’m gonna back up all my important data onto my iPod and very likely get a new HD. I saw a nice, spacious 40GB one that’s fairly cheap. 40GB will be a luxury for someone who has never had a primary machine with a HD bigger than 15GB. So next time I write I will either have a new HD, be running from my iPod or writing from another computer.
