I just hope that you don't miss it while your heads are in iPod heaven
I just sent this to Apple:
“I know that it’s unlikely that you actually do something about this and you probably hear stuff like this all the time, but I think that when Tiger is released you need to advertise the hell of it and the mac mini.
PC users may not have the price excuse any more thanks to the Mac mini but they do have another excuse, lack of knowledge. The majority of PC users still think of the Mac as a good looking, expensive computer that can’t do a whole lot because it’s a PC. And through out the years Apple has been guilty of playing this card with many of it’s advertisements. I know that a lot of your income comes from hardware but let’s face it, the majority of people don’t use the Mac just on the hardware (it’s just a nice bonus to have nice looking and well built hardware).
The main reason people use the Mac is the Operating System and the software. So show off OSX and show off iLife. It’s no good saying that they come with every Mac when most PC user don’t know what they are and what they can do. Show spotlight and Exposé and dashboard and core image. Show how easy it is to take a photo collection and turn it into a DVD. Show how easy it is to use these with your iPod.
I remember seeing an advert you made once that showed a Dad helping his kid put a movie together for a project about what they did over the holiday. Now that was when macs were more expensive and the software was too. I don’t know what response that got but I do know that an advert showing basically the same thing but this time with iMovie and then showing it being made into a DVD with iDVD and then showing it playing on a TV will get people to think much more about the Mac. You’ve already seized the MP3 player market by advertising the ease of use and quality of design of the iPod. The Mac has always had the same principles and if you advertise the hell out of the Mac and more importantly OSX and iLife then you’ll be able to seize a huge part of the computer market.
I’ve just read a report saying that 46% of iPod users plan on their next computer being a Mac. That’s without advertising the Mac on TV. You could easily get a huge chunk of that other 54% as well as many non iPod users if you advertise. I took my iBook into school last week and when I first took it out I got the usual “Oh a crapple mac” comments. Those comments soon turned to “Wow that’s cool” when I showed them OSX.
You have the best opportunity in years to get the market share you deserve, I just hope that you don’t miss it while your heads are in iPod heaven.”

I think it’s going to take more than creative advertising if Apple wants to grow its share.
