Geek Toy of the week: Optimus Keyboard

This week’s Geek Toy is a first. You can’t go online and download it, unlike previous Geek Toys. You can’t even run out and buy it in a store, because it’s still in development. (Also, this is the first Geek Toy to be featured on the DT PC site as well.) What is it? The Optimus Keyboard.

What makes Optimus unique is that instead of standard keys, each key contains a small OLED screen; what each key shows changes depends on the application. For example, when using Photoshop, the keys display icons of various tools.  And to prevent burn-in, it will include a “key-saver.” According to the designers, it is currently in early production and will be out sometime in 2006.

This isn’t the last you’ve heard of these guys. Stay tuned…

1.

Very cool.  If only it were palm-sized so it could be used as an iTunes remote control.
