Geek Toy of the week: Widget Master 1.1
Geek Toy of the Week is a weekly feature that spotlights a notable application, utility, or cool gadget in the Mac universe which power users would be particluarly interested. in. You can find it posted every Sunday or Monday, depending on when we get around to it.
One of the features rumored for Mac OS X 10.4.2 is a built-in widget manager. Until then, there is only one way to manage your widgets within the operating system itself: drag them into and out of the Widgets folder. This is a less-than-ideal solution (and rather un-Mac-like), being that the Widgets folder is tucked away in the Library folder and that there are multiple locations where they are stored (as opposed to something more obvious and centralized like the Applications folder). As a result, dealing with widgets can become a bit of a hassle. In the meantime, we have tools like Whimsplucky Software’s Widget Master 1.1.
Widget Master is fairly easy to, uh, master. You have two columns; one for widgets all users can access and one for all widgets only the current user can access. Through Widget Master, you can add or remove any widget to or from either list, and move widgets from the user-only widgets folder to the sysem-wide widgets folder. It even includes links to some major Dashboard widget sites, so you can feed your widget addiction some more.
Widget Master is a free download.
