Google Launches IM Service
Google has launched its own instant messaging service. Google Talk, as it’s known, is based on Jabber. How do I know? It works in iChat using Jabber. The GoolgeTalk IM client is available for Windows only, however in staying true to its “don’t be evil” mantra, Google Talk is compatible with other IM clients that support Jabber. A partial list can be found here. Instructions are also listed for various IM clients.

Too bad non-windows users can’t use Google Talk the way it’s meant to - voice chat!
For that, Skype is where it’s at!

For Windows, Mac and ‘nix. It’s caught on like wildfire with people I know after I got it. The funny thing is - most are Mac people who use iChat (which already has Voice chat).
What sold them is that you can get your own phone number for €10 Euro for 3 months so you can receive calls from anyone! Even those without a computer!
You can also buy time to place outgoing calls to actual phones! Very handy!
Add a headset and you got yourself a great phone!
