MacTeens hacked by phishers [UPDATED]

MacTeens, the Mac-oriented community for teenagerss (as the name might imply wink ) and friend of DT, has been hacked in an apparent phishing scheme. The server was broken into around 11 AM EST today (4 December 2006) and the site knocked offline. Currently, the MacTeens staff is working to restore the site from backups. MacTeens notes that “through an assumed security hole present in the server control panel system, the attacker gained access to the system and subsequently began to prepare the server as a mass distribution box for a Paypal Phishing scam.”

It just so happens that MacTeens posted an interview with Deep Thought Features Editor and co-founder Martin Pilkington regarding his software development. Uh, needless to say, this was merely a sick coincidence.

MacTeens reported at 4:30 PM EST that they hope to be back up and running within 24-36 hours. Having been hax0r’d in the past, we at Deep Thought feel their pain.

UPDATE 12-5-06 10:32 PM PDT: MacTeens’ forums and photo galleries are back up.

Ha! You took my joke! I was going to say something about how I wonder if this relates to Pilky being interviewed…
