Macworld San Francisco
Macworld San Francisco looms large over the horizon and the rumor sites seem to be going crazier than ever hyping it up. So I thought I’d do a little summing up of what’s been suggested is going to be happening.
- Computers:
- Powerbook — Some suggestion of speed bumps or G5.
- Powermac — Again, some suggestion of speed bumps to 2.8Ghz
- eMac — G5 update
- Headless iMac
- Software:
- iLife ‘05 — Seems almost certain, but what features can we expect? No body knows!
- Keynote 2 — Also seems pretty certain
- iWork — Bundling Keynote with a new word processor (Pages?) to create an office package
- iPod:
- 5GB iPod Mini — Seems pretty much certain
- iPod flash
Of these, maybe only 2 or 3 seem certain that we’re going to see — iPod Mini’s bumped to 5GB, iLife ‘05 and Keynote 2. So lets discard them, and look at the more interesting possibilities. At this point we have a passing mention to the iPod and a good hour’s speech on iLife and Keynote, half an hour on how Apple is doing… This leaves maybe half an hour for anything else. So there can’t be that much more. Speed bumps are rarely announced on stage, so we can probably disregard any of those rumours and push them into the category of appearing on the Tuesdays following the event. So this leaves us with only a few possibilities.
The Powerbook G5 is highly unlikely — it would require an act of God for Apple to succeed in squeezing the current G5 into that small a case. So that’s us down to iPod flash, iMac headless and pages. All of which have been circulating as rumours for the past year or two. Pages and iWorks seems a pretty reasonable guess as AppleWorks gets more and more aged — if they hadn’t been working on a completely new suite, why hasn’t Appleworks been upgraded to version 7? So, I’d give that a good chance of showing up at the keynote.
What Steve doesn’t have now though is an “and one more thing"… So I’d give iMac headless/iPod flash a 50/50 chance of showing up at the end of the Keynote.
What do you all think?

thinkback
I think the point is that the iPod is making people switch… but not that fast… And if they could get a cheep mac that would just plug into their current monitor then it would switch them.

What do i think? hopefully no powerbook changes. i want mine to be the best still :D id say iPod flash. headless iMac seems stupid and would be a dumb move. then ud have to buy a 1200 dollar monitor from apple, if u want an apple monitor. or just get the headed iMac for the same price. id say maybe a 17inch LCD Cinema display. or MAYBE studio display, but i doubt that.
