News of the Weird: The Case of the Purloined Plate!

Who steals geeky license plates? Honestly!

What’s red and white and blue all over and is emblazoned with “WEB GEEK”?

Why, Dori Smith’s California license plates, of course. And one of them has been been stolen! Yes, I’m dead serious.

Writing for Backup Brain, Dori talks about her stolen license plate, which mysteriously vanished from her car in Healdsburg, California (a town about 60 miles north of San francisco). She writes,

Here’s my guess: someone from the San Francisco/Silicon Valley area was in Healdsburg yesterday wandering around the downtown area, saw my license plate, and thought it would be a giggle to take it. It would look great on someone’s office wall, and hey, the car owner could just get a new one, right?

Wrong.

The best case scenario involves Tom and I spending many many many hours dealing with this, and ending up (finally) with a replacement plate. The most likely scenario involves Tom and I spending many many many hours dealing with this, and losing the plate forever.

That sucks. If you live in the Bay Area or Northern California, do keep your eyes peeled for something that looks a little like this:

I sure will. Be certain to read Dori’s blog entry about it to find out more and learn how you can help.
