Office 12 on Vista Screenies [UPDATED]
From the “Room with a View” desk…
Jensen Harris’ MSDN blog posted photos of Microsoft Office 12 Beta 2 running on top of Windows Vista Beta 2. the windows use a dark glossy theme as well as the standard Windows Vista “glass” windows. The user interface is not complete; as Jensen says, “We’re still planning on some visual tweaks based on feedback and to optimize for glass, especially in the upper-left corner (or, as we call it internally, the “northwest” corner.).”
Not a whole lot to say, but if you’re up for some screenies, these are worth a look. And whatever you do, don’t get Jensen Harris confused with Jason Harrris of Unsanity and Geekspiff fame.
UPDATE Links fixed.

thinkback
Well, the links are fine now, but at least one of the screenshots just simply isn’t showing for me. Hmm.
Seriously, it’s a strain on my eyes. I couldn’t imagine having to look at that and work for several hours.
The good news is Microsoft is really good at letting you customize their stuff, unlike Apple.
Turn off swoosh in the grey application background. It’s distracting.
Turn off all glass in windows. Distracting.
Turn off gradient in toolbar.
So menus are gone? It looks from the Word screenshot that they are just tabs? Is that right? Or is “Home” a customized place and the other menu items are actual menus?
Why the interest for all these screenshots? Who should care about them?
I’d like to know what Vista will contain and what not, what was excluded. How will it make things easier? How will it tackle the huge security problems Windows always have had on the net?
I’ve read that Leopard will include everything Microsoft promised for Longhorn. That would be interesting!
It’s okay that you think that. Mikeal; just don’t act all excited when screenshots of Leapord start to filter out to the public.
I am excited for Vista, even if i am alone.
You aren’t alone at all. 98 out of 100 people are using Windows, right? An improved Windows is good for everyone.
While there are many things in Vista that are seriously flawed in my opinion, user interface-wise, I do see things in it that will be an improvement over XP. Since I own both platforms, I’m looking forward to Vista too.
98 out of 100????
I can’t help thinking Liam that all these screenshots are a substitute for a very thin OS update, compared to what MS promised.
MS is the 800 lb. gorilla which has become slow and too comfortable where they are sitting. What they do is already very profitable, plus I believe the Windows code is excruciatingly complex which makes it more difficult for them.
So Apple will be one or several steps ahead for a long time to come.

Dude. Jensen Harris doesn’t work for DT, and I’m pretty sure he doesn’t write your blog.
