Speculation: will Windows go PowerPC?
A blog on Sun Microsystems looks into the possibility of Windows moving from the x86 hardware platform to PowerPC, considering the XBox 360’s PowerPC processor.
Why is this scary? Because Microsoft has tipped their hand and announced that they intend a version of XBox2 that also has all of their MediaPC functionality. Written right there between the lines is this-- Microsoft is porting XP to the PPC. They have to in order to meet that goal. By the time they are done enabling all their Media software they will have virtually all of XP on that platform.
So lets play what-if for a minute, What if Microsoft has decided that they don’t like being tied at the hip to Intel and intends to offer PowerPC XP based computers?
All-in-all, an interesting read.

thinkback
I think he might have been referring to the Intel archetecture (referring to x86 in general). At least that’s how I took it.
and that’s a freaky thought--Power Macs running Windows natively!

1.
XP already exists on PowerPC. The Xbox 360 development kits are PowerPC G5s running XP and Visual Studio. But that article is misguided in a number of ways, the chief one being that it assumes Microsoft is tied to the hip with Intel.
Nothing could be further from the truth.
Intel could die tomorrow, and Microsoft would just keep on trucking with processors from AMD and Via. Intel wouldn’t even be missed. Same goes for AMD and Via. Even Dell, the last Intel-only stalwart, is rumored to be making Opteron servers.
