As some of you may know , I live in Kentucky. This gives me the right to use the word “aint” and the phrase “used-to-was” because I’m making fun of myself at the same time.

Continuing on.

Technology used to be a marvelous thing. Taking sand (silicon) and making it into something more than an annoying thing that chafes the skin from your toes. However, in today’s market, nothing is built to last. Cell phones are engineered or “de-engineered” to break after a certain amount of time. Why? Simply so some old guy can get more money. Now before I go on, I have to say i am not writing in spite. Nothing that I dearly loved has broken recently, other than by my own doing, and if you comment this saying you are a technology engineer and claim that I am lying about “de-engineering”, then well… I dont care.

Stuff used to be built to last. That’s why old crap is still crapping up everything, because it was built well. My bass (guitar) amp was built sixteen years ago, and it still blasts away with better sound than many new amps. I frequent a thrift store down the street from my house. Almost every time I visit there, I wander to the back of it where they keep the old computers. So far, I have obtained an almost perfect condition Commodore 64 with games. How or why I did this I’m not sure, but dang it’s fun (not to mention way cheaper than buying an Xbox). At this thrift store are computers as old as the original Apple. Things you read about John Carmack and John Romero making Doom 1 on. Crazy cool stuff. I’ve seen more working “Zapper” guns for the NES than working computers taken out of boxes. Why? because it’s not built the way it used to be. We need to do something. Write some letters. Get the quality of our geek gear back before it’s too late and they realize they can strand us on an uninhabited island by placing free MacBooks there. Trick is none of us will think about how the batteries don’t come charged. WHY!?!?!?!?!

Start the technology revolution. Get the quality of our tech back. And let’s not kill anyone doing it because I’m a pacifist.

Someone should make a website or something about this. That would be cool. If you do, I will put an interview with you on DT. So yea, make one.
