The 2006 Worst Websites of The Year Awards
Well everybody, this last year was one heck of a year here on Deep Thought, and as we start things for 2007 up I’m going to be giving you my quick list of the five worst websites of 2006. The explanation of a “bad website” is simple. Its a website that has one of three issues.
NOTE: All websites considered for worst website are mainstream; this will not include small one-man websites that have a reason to look and be crappy.
Three qualifying issues
The first of the three issues with a website is design: a muddled website just plain will not work. So if I can’t get around your website, you qualify. Secondly, their is the qualifier of customer support. Since I’m a jerk to many people I find it fun to write fake customer support email to websites and see how they handle things. Some of the replies I’ve gotten range from scams to just plain rudeness. The third and final qualifier for the “worst website” is purely how much I like it, just my opinion. Now lets get started with number five.
Number Five
This years number five worst website of the year award goes to THE WORLD’S WORST WEBSITE. This site proclaims itself to be the worst website out there, and even though it’s not mainstream I have to include it for trying. (Also, it was number two on Google search.) This website is really a horrible site and I couldn’t stand it for more than enough time to get the URL and run. Let’s move to number four.
Number Four

The fourth place worst website award goes to MSN’s Hotmail. This huge email provider is good for normal use, and I admit to having a hotmail account myself. However the login page lack everything useful, and trying to recover a lost password is horrible at best. After one week I had no response from my customer support inquiry, so I am giving this site the fourth place worst website of the year.
Number Three

This website really made me mad this year. I emailed Keenzo.com in my quest to get review hardware. When I received a reply it was from a gmail account and it wanted my credit card number. All I have to say is DO NOT try and scam me. Here’s my payback. Keenzo.com, third worst website of 2006.
Number Two

This year’s number two is possibly one of the more annoying sites out there. Bestbuy.com makes me want to actually go to the store. This website’s navigation is utter and total crap that a savant couldn’t navigate through. To test how bad it was, I found a product via a Google search, then I went to their home page and attempted to find the product form there. In the end, I could never find that product. My words of advice to Best Buy: you need a much better website to sell your stuff. Second Place to Bestbuy.com.
And finally…
Number One
The number one worst website of the year is MySpace.com. Myspace is one of the world’s largest online communities, and as much as I’d like to give this award to someone else, Im afraid I can’t pass this over. There are a few very large issue with MySpace. The first is phishing. Myspace is flooded with phished accounts that spam those of us smart enough to realize that Fred’s Industrial Supply does not really have a MySpace portal on their homepage. The other issue with MySpace is the lack of any adminestrative presence in technical support. I have seen a page claiming that an error occurred and it was reported to tech support at least 100 times this year alone. I have a sneaky feeling that none of those errors ever make it to tech support. Also the servers lag, a lot. Trying to do anything on MySpace is the equivalent of trying to talk with the hiccups. Additionally, for musical artists, there is incessant spam from scammers. All of this accumulates into Myspace.com receiving the Worst Website of 2006 Award.
