News of the Weird: SunnComm releases press release to counter satire
In an apparent case of “Somebody can’t take a joke,” DRM scheme developer SunnComm released a press release today to deny that they are working with Apple and Microsoft to develop a new version of FairPlay, iTunes’ DRM scheme.
SunnComm International, Inc. (Pink Sheets:SCMI), maker of MediaMax, America’s best selling and most accepted content protection and enhancement technology, announced today that certain reports announcing a joint venture with one of its competitors are absolutely not true.
The report in question? A satyrical article on p2pnet.net. The “report” states that the “new version” of FairPlay would “do” “the” “following:”
When an iPod (or other) user wearing the new audio devices plays an iTunes track not sanctioned by Organized Music (EMI Group, Vivendi Uiversal, Warner Music), Fair Play feedback ‘instructs’ the buds to emit a piercing, high-pitched scream in stereo at 250 decibels.
The Mac Observer reports that “the space shuttle engines produce sound levels at 215db, and 200db can be fatal to humans.” 125 volts is, well, a lot of electric current (the average household’s electrical system runs at 120 volts).
Kudos to P2PNet for their great deadpanning of their…

Mac mini+Front Row+Ford F150=Awesome
What do you get when you take a Mac mini, a hacked copy of Front Row, and a Ford F150 pickup truck? you end up with a real mobile media center Mac! One intrepid poster atMP3Car.com’s forum did just that. This thread was posted about three weeks ago, but it’s the first time I’ve seen this.
Very cool. Makes me wish such things came with a car. Maybe Ford should rethink the buy-a-Ford-get-a-Dell promotion they ran a while ago. “Buy a Ford, get a Mac in your back seat,” anyone?

Intel Macs coming early?
Intel, baby! And rumors! w00t!
Forbes is reporting that Intel-based Macs may be coming to the party early and could debut at Macworld San Francisco in January, starting with everyone’s favorite 6.5"x6.5"x2" box, the Mac mini.
The analyst said Apple would introduce more video content and digital entertainment offerings at Macworld in January, helping to drive shares. Checks also indicate that the company may be ready to launch lower-end Intel-based Macs earlier than its original June 2006 target, with the possibility of an Intel-based Mac Mini at Macworld.
Deep Thought’s Take: Considering how Steve Jobs and company apparently had their calendars off by a few months and have already released a crapload of new goods, it’s quite possible we’ll hear that silly Intel jingle at the end of Apple TV ads sooner than we thought--but knowing Steve, he’ll take over Intel’s marketing department, redesign the Intel Inside logo and make a new Intel jingle. But that’s just my hunch.
