journal: think
gmail’s “targetted advertising”
I signed up for gmail simply because I got an invite, and gmail accounts had some prestige “back in the day”. I never used it except to give other people invites. On a whim I decided to see how well Opera handled it, and after logging in I find myself with 8 messages in my spam box and nothing else. I never gave the address out to anyone and I never used it, so how did I manage to get this spam? Maybe this is another side to gmail’s targetted advertising that they don’t advertise so loudly.

Santa Clara, start your photocopiers!
Today Intel showed off their “new” concept PC, and I swear I’ve seen it before.
Hmm…
I know the idea of a small desktop computer isn’t new, but I’m sure there are other designs Intel could have come up with. The only excuse I can think of for Intel is that design work for this concept started before January and it’s only a funky coincidence.
Thoughts?

Selling on ebay is always fun
This makes me happy ![]()
Today my G4 tower sold on ebay, for a fantastic £361. This means that I sold a 733Mhz noisy giant G4 tower, for more than the cost of my £330 Mac mini - the mini is roughly twice as fast as it. This makes me happy

That may well be the case, but I doubt it. My personal feelings on the matter are that Microsoft should open their eyes a bit wider and see the context in which the words are used. If they did that, then they will notice that there are two distinctly seperate groups of people that use these phrases.
There are the ‘Punk Kids’ that think it’s cool to speak leet, and they may in fact be involved in the illegal downloading of software or music or whatver is going to be viewed as wrong next week, but these aren’t the people that the law is particularly interested in.
The second group of people are the ones that have been around for a while. They’ve seen what the interweb has to offer, and are largely disillusioned by it. They’ve seen these punks before, and they realise that they grow up and out of their pre-pubescent offensiveness and learn to master the language that they are abusing. Some of…
