Problems with Deep Thought
As you may have noticed, most of Deep Thought’s content has well, umm, gone. This is my fault as I accidentally overwrote the database (I didn’t realise until someone told me a few minutes ago). I don’t have a back up myself, though my host hopefully will. If they do, then all will be good; if not, then I guess we’ve lost the few posts we actually have made so far.
The forums are unaffected by this. Oh, and I’ll remember to make weekly backups of the DB from now on.

UK Government Agency taken down by Windows
The UK Department of Work and Pensions had computer problems earlier this week leaving many people without access to benefits. It turns out that when they upgraded 7 PC’s from Windows 2000 to Windows XP it caused a BSOD (crash) on 60,000 other PC’s. I’m sure that Microsoft won’t find this amusing as they are currently trying to get people to switch to XP while they work on their next gen OS, Windows Longhorn.

Google Academic
Google has launched a beta of it’s academic paper search engine - scholar.google.com. Type in a subject and you get back loads of papers… Click the ‘n citations’ link and you get all the papers that cited it. It’s fantastic.
